Maryland has been one of the most steady contenders in women's college basketball in the 23 years that Brenda Frese has been the head coach. During her tenure, the Terrapins have been to the NCAA Tournament in every season but two, and they even won a National Championship in 2006 on a roster filled with five WNBA talents.

However, the team has not been to the Final Four since 2015, which was their first season in the Big Ten. Last year, Maryland lost in the first round of March Madness for the first time in Frese's tenure, and they need to bounce back this season.

Led by a star duo of Kaylene Smikle and Shyanne Sellers, the Terrapins finished tied for third in a loaded Big Ten Conference. They have solid wins against teams like Duke, Michigan State, Iowa, Ohio State and Minnesota, but they fell in their first conference tournament game against Michigan in embarrassing fashion.

The road to the Final Four will not be easy, but as a No. 4 seed, Maryland should have a relatively favorable matchup in the first round. However, they'll take on No. 13 seed Norfolk State, a 30-win team that went undefeated in the MEAC and beat two of the three SEC foes that they played.
