It took a series of miraculous wins in the Round of 32 for Maryland and Florida to be facing off in the Sweet 16. The Gators needed an improbable comeback against the two-time defending champion UConn Huskies, and the Terrapins needed a double-clutch buzzer-beater from Big Ten Freshman of the Year Derik Queen to propel them past Colorado State. Now, the two teams will test their luck once again as they meet for just the fourth time in history with a trip to the Elite 8 on the line.

Maryland vs. Florida prediction

The Gators looked like a shell of themselves as they struggled on Sunday against UConn, but there might not be a tougher coach to play against than Dan Hurley in the month of March. Good teams find a way to win, and that is exactly what Florida did on Sunday.

Maryland got exposed a bit by Colorado State in the second round, but again, held on for a win because they are a good team. However, the Gators boast an 8-2 record against nationally ranked opponents and a 32-4 overall record against the seventh-hardest strength of schedule in the country. Maryland is just 5-5 against nationally ranked foes and has an inferior 27-8 record against a substantially worse strength of schedule.

This should be a high-scoring affair, but Florida will pull this one out because they have more high-end talent than Maryland. Derik Queen will be tough to stop for the Gators, but the Terrapins have little to no answer for Walter Clayton Jr., Alijah Martin, and Will Richard.
