This year's March Madness has been amazing for the Maryland basketball programs. A day after Derik Queen made his game-winning shot against Colorado State, Shyanne Sellers stepped up and helped to push the Lady Terps into the Sweet 16 as well.
In a game of runs, this one epitomized that, as the XFINITY Center home crowd saw their team come back to tie things up after being down 17 with 3:28 left in the third. Momentum took major swings throughout this one. When UMD needed it most, they found ways to seize control of the game and thwarted late attempts by Alabama to advance in the NCAA tournament.
Needing two periods of overtime to find a winner, the Terrapins won in 2OT 111-108 over the Crimson Tide. The broadcast mentioned that this game was the second-highest total scoring performance in the tournament. This game was topped only by a 1995 Second Round game between Alabama and Duke that ended 121-120.
While that one went to four overtimes, two was all that coach Brenda Frese needed (or more accurately, likely wanted) in order to secure passage for an upcoming fixture against South Carolina. It didn't come without a high level of play from both teams. The head coach will be proud of how her players pushed through what could have easily been a breaking point for any other group.
Coach Frese has preached resilience, and the Terrapins have more than responded to the call. Seemingly, when they needed it, either Sellers was making big-time plays or Sarah Te-Biasu was getting to her spot and draining shots.
The fanbase was understandably highly ecstatic after hanging on through 50 game minutes of intense basketball action. At this point, in a reasonable reaction to everything, X account TerpTalk shared a highly emotional GIF as part of the relief mixed with proud fandom that came across in the post:

Inside Maryland Sports pointed out how the Lady Terps are frequent visitors of the late rounds come tourney time. Taking a moment to appreciate coach Frese's achievement of leading a group to the Sweet 16 four times should be emphasized. This is an excellent feat by the Maryland HC.
In an instant classic, the Lady Terps are headed back to the Sweet 16 for the fourth time in five years, winning 111-108 in 2OT. The University of Maryland is one of four schools to advance to the Sweet 16 in the men’s and women’s tournament. https://t.co/i5AvYwnW7j pic.twitter.com/5V415SA27P

Returning the favor from yesterday, the men's account also took to social media in solidarity with their fellow campus compatriots. They not only made it known that UMD won, but that it had been a terrific ride to get there as well!
The Terps know how to do drama, AND WIN!

Congrats @TerpsWBB! pic.twitter.com/rpLvXA9uE3
Finally, @MatthewJayNY pointed out that both games from Sunday and Monday should easily earn consideration for having been the best matchups of March Madness so far. Considering the incredible comeback, needing terrific offensive efforts and clutch free throws with the high stakes and intensity, it's hard to make a case for a more deserving game so far.
So the Maryland Terrapins have provided both the best game of the men's and women's tournament so far 🫡

My old basketball coach played for them so I love to see it.
It was a close game that could have seen either program pull out at the end of regulation or either overtime and advance. Coach Frese, however, and her players managed to mind just that extra bit that was ultimately needed in what will be a Maryland college basketball encounter that many will talk about for years to come.
