The Maryland football team hasn’t exactly the best luck when facing Ohio State since they joined the Big Ten three years ago.

Unfortunately, Saturday wasn’t any different as the Terrapins were dominated in a 62-14 loss.

Maryland’s offense struggled throughout the game as they only accumulated 66 yards of total offense. Quarterback Max Bortenschlager completed only 3-of-12 passes for 16 yards and the Terps only picked up six first downs all afternoon.

The Terps didn’t fare any better with the ground game. This was a group that carried the ball 42 times for just 50 yards.

Ty Johnson led Maryland with 12 attempts for 57 yards, which was good for a 4.8 yards-per-carry. Johnson Johnson did return a kickoff back for a 100-yard touchdown in the first quarter cut Ohio State’s lead to 14-7.

This came after the Buckeyes started off the with a nine-play, 70-yard drive that resulted in a one-yard touchdown run from J.T. Barrett. Less than two minutes later, Jerome Baker returned a 20-yard fumble back for a touchdown after Bortenschlager was hit and the ball popped free.

Bortenschlager didn’t complete a pass until the second quarter, which was one of the main reasons that Maryland fell so far behind early on.

Following Johnson’s kickoff return touchdown, that seemed to be where things took a turn for the worse.

Ohio State scored four consecutive touchdowns to end the first half. Barrett completed touchdown passes to Binjimen Victor, Marcus Baugh, and Austin Mack to extend the Buckeyes’ lead to 41-7 after 30 minutes.

The Buckeyes added three more scores in the second half before the Terps finally showed a little bit of life.

Freshman Javon Leake rushed for a 20-yard touchdown with 4:11 left in the game. It was Leake’s second touchdown of the season.

It was an afternoon to forget for Maryland to say the least. They’ll try to put this horrific performance behind them next week when they host Northwestern for a 3:30 kickoff.
