Maryland Football: Five storylines to watch for Maryland/Central Florida
By Chris Bengel
Will big plays continue?
Through the first two games, Maryland has done a lot of their damage via explosive offensive plays.
The Terps have scored eight of their offensive touchdowns from 25 yards or more. In the Towson game, running back Ty Johnson found paucity from 74 and 46 yards on the afternoon.
Javon Leake added a 68-yard touchdown run while Jake Funk scored from 25 yards away. Maryland has also gotten it done through the air with D.J. Moore and Taivon Jacobs also catching deep passes.
The lethal offense has made it a lot easier on Hill so far. On the other hand, he isn’t always able to put together long drives due to these plays.
Obviously, that won’t be a problem if it continues throughout the season. As the competition gets stiffer, so does the chance that these big plays being so frequent.
Johnson had a knack for long runs last season even with a less-than-stellar quarterback situation. It’s hard to imagine that he doesn’t have his fair share and it could even continue this week against Central Florida.
