Tyrrell Pigrome running the offense

It was revealed on Monday that Pigrome would be Maryland’s starting quarterback against Texas. It will be only the second career start for the Terps signal caller despite seeing considerable playing time last fall.

It may not come as a huge surprise to Maryland fans that Pigrome will be under center on Saturday. After all, the quarterback competition came down to Pigrome and true freshman Kasim Hill and it’s really not fair to expect a freshman to start his first game in Austin.

Pigrome appeared in all but one game in 2016, so the experience is there. In his only start (against Minnesota), the Alabama native completed 18-of-37 passes for 161 yards to go along with a touchdown pass and two interceptions.

The former three-star recruit brings a ton of athleticism to the table, which he displayed several times last season. He rushed for 254 yards and four touchdowns while averaging 4.1 yards-per-carry.

Pigrome should definitely keep the Longhorns on their toes due to his running ability. However, it’ll be interesting to see how much he’s improved as a passer.

Passing the football was where Pigrome struggled the most as a freshman. He did only attempt double-digit passes in two games, so it’s not the biggest sample size when it comes to that aspect of his game.

If Pigrome can make the tough throws and keep Texas guessing, he could have a great deal of success.
