The Maryland football team begins the 2017 season on Saturday with a very tough test.

In the past, the Terrapins have had the luxury of opening against the likes of Howard, James Madison, and Richmond in recent years. However, it’ll be a much different story on Saturday when Maryland faces Texas.

The Longhorns are fresh off of a 5-7 (3-6 Big 12) record in the final year under Charlie Strong. After three mediocre seasons, Strong was let go and Texas made arguably the biggest splash of the offseason by hiring former Houston coach Tom Herman.

Maryland and Texas have both been forecasted as programs on the rise by many publications. D.J. Durkin and Herman are also of the hottest names in the coaching world, so needless to say, Saturday’s contest could be very entertaining.

Without further ado, here’s our five storylines to watch for Maryland/Texas.
