Maleak Bryant’s recruitment had really picked up as he received seven offers over the past month.

On Sunday evening, Bryant elected to commit to Maryland despite having offers from Iowa State, Pittsburgh, and Tennessee among others. Bryant had visited College Park back on April 4.

Bryant is rated as the No. 36 tight end and the 89th-best player in the state of Georgia in 247Sports’ Composite rankings. He’s also tabbed as the No. 921 player in the country.

According to Ahmed Ghafir of InsideMDSports, Bryant had visited Iowa State since he had traveled to Maryland last month.

Maryland continues to move up in 247Sports’ rankings for the 2018 class. The Terps’ class is now comprised of eight players with Bryant being the latest and is rated as the No. 31 class in the nation.

The Terps also own the number-eight class in the Big Ten. Maryland only has two four-star pledges at the moment, but there will be plenty of time to climb in the rankings as National Signing Day gets closer.

This is an interesting commitment because Maryland hasn’t exactly utilized the tight end position a ton in recent years. In 2016, Maryland tight ends Avery Edwards and Derrick Hayward combined for just five receptions for 40 yards and a touchdown.

Edwards showed promise as a freshman in 2015 when he hauled in 14 passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns. His best game as a Terp came when he caught both of his touchdowns against South Florida in a 35-17 Maryland victory.

D.J. Durkin and his coaching staff have made the tight end position a priority as of late. Maryland also added three-star tight end Andrew Park in the 2016 class.
