Melo Trimble struggled in a big way during Thursday’s scrimmage at the NBA Draft Combine.
On Friday, Trimble put together a much better performance in his second five-on-five scrimmage.
Trimble finished with 12 points (4-of-8 shooting), six assists, two rebounds, and a steal for his team. The former Maryland guard also connected on one of his three attempts from long-range on the afternoon.
He was the third leading-scorer on his team behind Kansas’ Frank Mason III (21 points) and French prospect Jonathan Jeanne (14). Trimble also received the fourth-most playing time as he spent 24 minutes on the floor in Chicago.
It was more of a complete performance for Trimble and it’s one that Maryland fans have become accustomed to seeing from the star guard.
Late in the first half, Trimble displayed his shot from the perimeter. As he brought the ball down the court, the former Bishop O’Connell (Va.) star received a pick and was able to rise over his defender and knock down an arching three-point shot.
Trimble excelled at driving to the basket and did display his ability to get through the free throw line a bit. He made all three attempts from the charity stripe.
During his career at Maryland, he thrived on drawing contact and getting to the line. After all, Trimble had 503 made free throws in his three years, which is the second-most in program history.
ESPN analyst Jay Williams noted how successful Trimble can be when he utilizes ball screens. When Trimble gets space, he’s one of the most dangerous guards that you will find.
Friday’s performance was huge for Trimble after he scored just two points and committed five turnovers on Thursday. Trimble appears to be a borderline draft pick at this point, but does have several NBA workouts scheduled in the coming weeks.

If Trimble can impress in his workouts, it’s not crazy to think that the former Terp could hear his name called next month.
