The Maryland lacrosse team has had a knack of hitting their stride when the calendar has flipped to May in recent years.

With the Big Ten Tournament beginning later this week, the situation looks to be the same.

The Terrapins have won six of their last seven games and are coming off a dismantling of Johns Hopkins this past Saturday. Maryland rolled past their local rivals in a 12-5 rout.

Maryland currently possesses the ninth highest scoring offense in the country. The Terps put up 13.08 goals-per-game in just 13 games this season.

They also own a 3-1 record against the likes of Albany, Penn State, Villanova, and Yale this season. Maryland outscored those opponents 51-46 and their only blemish was an overtime loss to Villanova on March 18.

The Terps held all four of those teams under their current scoring average.

Attackman Matt Rambo is playing the best lacrosse of his career. On Saturday, Rambo broke the all-time points record (232) that was previously held by Bob Boneillo for 37 years.

Rambo has accumulated 30 goals and 26 assists while shooting 31.2 percent. Given his stellar numbers, the Pennsylvania native was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and should be a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award.

Speaking of yearly honors, Tim Muller was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and joined by Rambo and midfielder Connor Kelly on the All-Big Ten First Team.

Coach John Tillman was also tabbed as the Big Ten Coach of the Year and defensive midfielder Isaiah Davis-Allen, attackman Colin Heacock, and midfielder Tim Rotanz made appearances on the All-Big Ten Second Team.

While he’s been inconsistent at times, Dan Morris is still one of the top netminders in the country.

Morris is giving up 9.08 goals-per-game, which is good for 20th in the nation. The Dallas native is also 17th in the country in save percentage (.539).

Morris oftentimes stands tall late in games when his team needs him. That comes in handy since Maryland has played in six one-goal games and three of those have gone to overtime.

This is a loaded team that has an offense with a ton of depth, a suffocating defense, and a top-notch goalie.
