Maryland Football: Five things to watch in Red-White Spring Game
By Chris Bengel
Can the defensive line continue to wreak havoc?
The pass rush has been a strength for Maryland over the past few seasons.
The Terps recorded 37 sacks, which was the third most in the Big Ten a season ago. Maryland’s group had 2.8 per game and was led by Jesse Aniebonam’s nine.
Jermaine Carter Jr. rushed the quarterback quite a bit in 2016 and ended up finishing with six sacks.
Guys like Kingsley Opara and Cavon Walker are really going to be depended on even more this coming season with Azubuike Ukandu graduating. Opara finished second on the team in tackles-for-loss (11.5) a year ago.
A name to watch is defensive tackle Adam McLean, who has yet to really see the field. The team may finally see what they have in the former four-star prospect.
Chandler Burkett and Melvin Keihn should also see even more time in 2017. Both were strong rotation players for London’s unit last season.
