Maryland Football: Austin Fontaine & Evan Gregory commit to Maryland

Austin Fontaine and Evan Gregory are two of the most highly-regarded local recruits in the 2018 class.

Before Maryland’s Red-White Spring Game on Saturday, the dynamic DeMatha (Md.) duo announced their commitment to the Terrapins. Fontaine and Gregory took to Twitter to confirm the news.

Fontaine is one of the most talented defensive tackles in the 2018 class. According to 247Sports’ Composite rankings, the DeMatha standout is rated as the seventh-best at his position and the fourth-best player in the state of Maryland.

Fontaine also ranks as No. 69 player in the entire class.

Gregory is a very highly-touted at his own position of offensive guard. The local offensive lineman is the 14th-best player at the position and the 10th-best player in Maryland.

Gregory is rated as the No. 282 player in the country.

Coach D.J. Durkin and the Terps now own the No. 27 class in the nation and the eighth-best in the Big Ten. Fontaine and Gregory are the first four-star prospects that have joined the class.

Durkin previously received pledges from quarterback Tyler DeSue (Bishop Sullivan Catholic, Va.), linebacker Nihym Anderson (Vineland, NJ), and weak-side defensive end Durrell Nchami (Paint Branch, Md.).

It’s definitely early in the recruiting process for a lot of players, but Maryland certainly gotten off to a good start with their 2018 class. With several high-profile recruits expected in College Park on Saturday, these may not be the last pledges of the day.
