The Maryland basketball team is currently riding a three-game losing streak.
With their latest loss coming against Iowa, the Terrapins are in dire need of a win.
Maryland has a big contest when they travel to Piscataway to take on Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights are also in free fall mode as they’ve dropped their past five games.
The Terps are most likely making the NCAA Tournament regardless of how they finish the season. However, a pair of wins against Rutgers and Michigan State to end the season would do wonders for their confidence.
With Maryland being in a very fragile state, let’s look at where the major bracketology publications have them seeded this week:
ESPN
- Seed: No. 7
- Projected opponent: No. 10 Syracuse; 17-13 (9-8 ACC)
- Potential opponent in next round: What a difference a week makes. Joe Lunardi had Maryland as a No. 6 seed last week with a potential second round matchup with Duke looming. Now it’s a Syracuse team that coincidentally beat Duke at the buzzer last week. The Orange are definitely a bubble team as Selection Sunday nears closer. Lunardi has the Terps facing the winner of No. 2 Oregon and No. 15 Cal State Bakersfield.
CBSSports
- Seed: No. 6
- Projected opponent: No. 11 TCU; 17-12 (6-10 Big 12) or No. 11 Wake Forest; 16-12 (7-9 ACC)***Play-in game
- Potential opponent in next round: Jerry Palm still has Maryland as a No. 6 seed despite a brutal week. The Terps may not be too upset if this would be their actual draw. These are a pair of teams with double-digit losses that are going to barely get into the field if they do at all. Maryland certainly would be favorites in either matchup.
Next: Terps desparate to end losing streak
USA Today
- Seed: No. 7
- Projected opponent: No. 10 Syracuse; 17-13 (9-8 ACC)
- Potential opponent in next round: Much like last week, Syracuse appears to be the flavor of the week as far as Bracketology goes. Shelby Mast bumped the Terps down to a No. 6 seed where the Orange are the projected opponent. Again, Syracuse may be on the bubble, but they’re certainly capable of beating just about any team in the country. The winner of No. 2 Gonzaga and No. 15 Texas Southern would await Maryland if they were to advance in such a scenario.
