Former Maryland cornerback Josh Wilson will be returning to the DMV for a prominent coaching position.

DeMatha Catholic (Md.) head coach Elijah Brooks announced that Wilson will be the team’s new defensive backs coach on his Instagram page.

Wilson has spent the last nine years in the NFL playing for the Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, Detroit Lions, Seattle Seahawks, and Washington Redskins. He most recently suited up for the Lions in 2015.

Prior to his NFL career, Wilson played his college football at Maryland. He played in 11 games as a true freshman and was a starter over his final two seasons in College Park.

During his Maryland career, Wilson accumulated 157 tackles, 25 defended passes, two interceptions, and forced a pair of fumbles. As a senior, he was fourth in the ACC with a 27.3 average for kickoff returns.

After a decorated career at Maryland, Wilson was drafted by the Seahawks in the second round (No. 55) of the 2007 NFL Draft. He played three years in Seattle before moving on to the hometown Ravens.

Wilson also played for the Redskins from 2011 to 2013 and had a tremendous amount of success. He rounded out his professional career with the Falcons and Lions in 2014 and 2015 respectively.

During his NFL career, the Houston native recorded 459 tackles (376 solo), 79 defended passes, 15 interceptions (four touchdowns), nine forced fumbles, and 5.5 sacks. His most productive season came in 2013 with the Redskins when he recorded 93 tackles (68 solo), seven defended passes, 2.0 sacks, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles.

This is the first coaching gig for Wilson. While it’s not at Maryland, it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise to see the relationship between the Terps and the Stags get even stronger.

Maryland has pulled a significant amount of talent from DeMatha since D.J. Durkin’s arrival. The addition of Wilson certainly isn’t a bad thing for the Terps.
