Replacing talent in the secondary

As was mentioned in the opening slide, there is a wide-open competition for three of the four secondary spots. Likely hasn’t practiced this spring, but his spot is obviously off the table. One of the players to keep an eye on is Josh Woods, who is converting to safety. Woods registered four tackles (two solo) in three games last season. By all accounts, Woods has been one of the more impressive Terps on the defensive side of the ball this spring. If Woods can bring some stability to the defensive backfield, Maryland will be in a lot better shape.

Another player to keep an eye on is Denzel Conyers. Conyers, who had 12 tackles and three passes defended in 2015, could be in prime position to grab another one of the starting spots. Conyers will be competing with the likes of Alvin Hill, Jarret Ross, and Darnell Savage. Hill and Ross have over 30 career games under their belt, so it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out. This will be one of the most intriguing position battles to watch on Saturday afternoon.
