Maryland Football: Michael Clark decommits plus recruiting notes
By Chris Bengel
There’s been quite a few changes since D.J. Durkin took over at Maryland.
On Tuesday, Michael Clark became the latest to decommit from the program.
According to Ahmed Ghafir of InsideMDSports, Clark decommitted from the Terrapins after a mutual decision to part ways. He added that “It wasn’t the same program I committed to. I didn’t get the same vibe.”
The Downingtown East (Pa.) is a three-star recruit that is currently ranked as the No. 105 offensive tackle in the country and the 24th best player in the state. Clark also had scholarship offers from South Carolina, Wake Forest, and West Virginia.
Clark is the latest in a strong of decommitments, including most recently Clear Spring (Md.) defensive end Joey Fisher on Jan. 8.
Ohio prospects Alex Hall (Louisville) and Terek Zingale (Nordonia) are currently the only two offensive tackles committed to the Terps. Maryland has secured commitments from offensive guards Terrance Davis (DeMatha Catholic, Md.) and Richard Merritt (Archbishop Carroll, D.C.) over the last month.
Visits/Commitment date set
Atlee (Va.) safety J.J. Givens has set his three official visits and his commitment date.
The three-star safety will visit Miami (Fla.) on Jan. 15, N.C. State on Jan. 22, and Maryland on Jan. 29. After taking those three visits, Givens will announce his commitment on Feb. 1.
Givens is the No. 50 safety and the 24th best player in the state of Virginia. He originally committed to South Carolina back on June 13 before decommitting on Nov. 28.
Givens has listed Arizona State, Clemson, Maryland, Michigan State, South Carolina, and Wisconsin as the finalists in his recruitment.
Maryland currently only has one defensive back commit in the 2016 class in Good Counsel (Md.) cornerback Travon Stott.
