No. 1 Matt Johnson

Bowling Green does have some phenomenal players at the skill positions, but quarterback Matt Johnson is the guy that makes their offense tick. Johnson missed nearly the entire 2014 season due to a hip injury, but had a strong game in the Falcons season opener. The Harrisburg native completed 27-of-49 passes for 424 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Falcons signal caller misfired on a few passes early on, but really found his groove as the first half rolled along.

While he’s not necessary a running quarterback, Johnson is very mobile in the pocket and is not afraid to tuck the ball down and run. He carried the ball 10 times for 52 yards last Saturday, including a 20-yard scamper. One of the most impressive attributes of Johnson’s game is that he hangs tough in the pocket and isn’t afraid to take a big hit in order to deliver a pass. Johnson is also a very good decison maker as he is able to get rid of the ball very quickly if necessary. Maryland’s pass rush was very strong against Richmond and it will have to turn in a similar effort this week if they want move to 2-0 on the season.
