Maryland lacrosse had a good recruiting week. On July 26, Maryland received commitments from 2016 midfielder Jared Chiachetti and just a week later, attacker Andrew Packer. Chiachetti plays football and basketball, so that should show just how athletic he really is. Chiachetti hails from Richland, New Jersey where he attended St. Augustine Prep and scored four goals in 20 games as a freshman. His coach praises his versatility and athletic ability, evidenced by his abundance of awards. Here is his full profile on phillylacrosse.com.
Packer played outstanding his freshman year, scoring an astounding 42 goals and dishing 23 assists in just 20 games. Packer was named the MVP of the Maverik Showtime All-Star Game in July and named by InsideLacrosse as one of twelve players who impressed during the game.
Packer is the fourth member of the 2016 class, joining attackers Preston Faecher and Jack Wilson and forward Tyler Rockhill. Head coach John Tillman should be happy with the early recruiting efforts paying off. All four commits have drawn praise from recruiting sites, earning MVPs and some named team captain for each respective team.
Maryland still has some targets on the board, including stud rising sophomore midfielder Zach Kissick, but Tillman will definitely try to keep the momentum rolling on the recruiting trail. The 2016 class is off to a promising start.
