The No. 3 Terps field hockey team continues to impress.

Tuesday, freshman attacker Maxine Fluharty was named the ACC field hockey player of the week, earning the award with an impressive three-goal weekend in Massachusetts. Her biggest highlight came when she scored the game-winning goal in the ninth minute of overtime against then-No. 8 Boston College. She added her third goal two days later against UMass.

Fluharty’s distinction means that Terps field hockey has taken three of five such awards handed out this season. Last week, sophomore Jill Witmer shared recognition with BC’s Jacqui Moorfield. Terps co-captain Jemma Buckley took the award home after week one.

This is the first time in her career Fluharty has been named player of the week. She and the team will try to keep up their current strong play this Saturday, Sept. 24, against Wake Forest in College Park.
