Hubert Gets North Carolina Offer

The top 2011 basketball target left for Gary Williams and co. is undoubtedly Desmond Hubert, the 6’9″ blocking machine from New Egypt, NJ. Until recently, he was considering Maryland, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Villanova, and Princeton. This week, he dropped the last three, leaving Maryland and North Carolina (who had yet to offer him).

Apparently, North Carolina has offered him, which is very bad news for the Terps. Maryland fans were clinging on to hope that North Carolina would not offer Hubert, and instead focus on Angelo Chol, thought to be a bigger target. In a one-on-one battle against UNC for a recruit, it’s hard to imagine the Tar Heels being anything but intense favorites.

However, Maryland has been rumored to be the leader for a while, so I guess we’ll just have to play wait and see.

The Terps will really be struggling for big man depth next year after Dino Gregory leaves, and the only real options besides Hubert at this time seem to be Eugene McCrory and Greg Whittington.
