Maryland Reportedly Hires Gattuso as D-Line Coach

According to multiple players on Twitter, an anonymous source, AND Wikipedia, Maryland has hired Greg Gattuso as their new defensive line coach, replacing Dave Sollazzo. Gattuso comes to Maryland from Pittsburgh, where he was an assistant head coach and their defensive line coach. He was previously the recruiting coordinator at Pitt, and is known as one of the top recruiters in Pennsylvania.

Prior to Pittsburgh, Gattuso was the head coach at Duquesne, where he compiled a 97-32 record (66-7 in conference), and won six straight MAAC titles.

Sollazzo was a player, fan, and media favorite who did a very good job as both a defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator, but the player reactions to the Gattuso hire so far seem to be generally positive.

Gattuso has had a ton of All-Big East and All-American linemen, and should do wonders with one of the most talented units Maryland has – with A.J. Francis, Joe Vellano, Zach Kerr, Justin Anderson, Derek Drummond et al., it’ll be a group that will be hard for any offensive line to contend with.
