Maryland and Rutgers have come together to announce a doubleheader in New York titled the “Big Ten Battle of the Bronx”.

This event has been reported to start with a wrestling match between the two schools, followed by a football game in Yankee Stadium on November 4th, 2017.

The wrestling match will be the first of its kind in Yankee Stadium. Both schools are probably looking for exposure to their wrestling programs for fans. Maryland has been struggling the last two seasons, combining for just 10 wins. Meanwhile, Rutgers has won both Big Ten matches by quite the landslide.

A plan is apparently in place for those worrying about inclement weather for the wrestling match. Early November could produce a white mat for the athletes to wrestle on.

In football, the battle at the bottom of the Big Ten’s East Division has been up in the air. Maryland leads the all-time series 6-5, including a win to close out last year’s dreadful season.

The teams have split the two Big Ten games with Rutgers coming back from 25 points down in Ralph Friedgen’s return to College Park. In Maryland’s 46-41 victory last November, the Terps erased a 21-point deficit to come back and top the Scarlet Knights.

Times and tickets have yet to be announced, but fans are sure to flock to the Big Apple for the football game, and maybe come in early for the tail end of wrestling.

A game at Yankee Stadium should make for great fanfare. Opposing fans always love to make a road trip and Maryland usually travels fairly well.

Playing at one of the most iconic stadiums in all of sports should add to the allure of the matchup. For a rivalry that is in the early stages, this could be just the atmosphere to help jumpstart it.
