Judge Headed to Rutgers, Turgeon Rumored To Retain Bino

facebooktwitterreddit

In a move that shouldn’t come as a surprise, Kansas State transfer and former McDonald’s All-American Wally Judge has chosen to attend Rutgers over Maryland. Judge was apparently close to choosing College Park before Gary Williams’ retirement, but now he’s headed up to Mike Rice’s program. The rising junior will have to sit out a year before he can play per NCAA rules, but he should be a good addition to a rapidly improving Rutgers team.

In assistant coaching news, IMS is reporting that Mark Turgeon will keep Bino Ranson on the staff, which is fantastic news. Bino is one of the best Baltimore-area recruiters in the nation, and his return almost guarantees that Nick Faust will stay with the program. Jeff Barker is reporting that Bino doesn’t know if he’s staying or not, but I’ve never seen IMS get anything wrong.

As for the rest of Turgeon’s coaching staff, the most likely result is he will try to retain Ehsan (who will surely get some high profile offers) and bring in Scott Spinelli, his top assistant at A&M and a good friend of his. Another possibility is Pooh Williamson, an assistant coach at A&M who has been with Turgeon for a while now.

Turgeon has said he wants to have an East Coast based coaching staff, and while Ehsan is from California, he’s been with the program long enough and has recruited well enough that he can be considered an East Coast guy. Another fact to keep in mind when thinking about Ehsan – Terrell Stoglin might leave if he’s not retained. So there’s that.

The coaching staff will probably be finalized by the end of the week. We’ll keep you updated as it happens.
