Highly-coveted defensive tackle Davin Taylor will announce his decision at 1:30 PM on Thursday, as first reported by Eric Kolenich of the Richmond Times-Dispatch. So who made the cut?

Maryland, Virginia Tech, Florida State and NC State have all made the cut for the Rivals250 defensive tackle from Thomas Dale high school. Taylor has reeled in over 30 offers from almost every school in the country, such as Penn State, South Carolina, Michigan State and Notre Dame. And there’s no wondering why he is so highly coveted.

Taylor is a 6’2″, 295 pound defensive tackle that does what he want at will. With such a big frame, he immediately becomes a great run stopper. His speed and nose for the ball always puts him in the middle of every play, either stopping the run for a loss or no gain. He’s a high-IQ player that sees a lot of read option in high school, an offense that has become increasingly popular throughout college football over the years. At the next level, he will not be able to bulldoze his way through the offensive line, but his instincts will allow him to consistently make plays at the line of scrimmage.

Currently, Florida State is the heavy favorite for Darvin Taylor, taking 24 of 25 of the Crystal Ball predictions (Virginia Tech has the one other prediction). A guy like Taylor would fit perfectly in a Brian Stewart defense alongside Kingsley Opara, so there’s no denying why Maryland was recruiting him so hard. Now, Edsall and the staff will play the waiting game for when Taylor makes his announcement official on Thursday.
