Savage confirmed what many have been thinking for weeks when he made his commitment to Maryland this evening. Savage is Maryland’s 14th commitment in the 2015 class. Savage is a 3-star CB from Delaware and committed to Maryland over offers from Old Dominion, Rutgers, Syracuse and Temple as well as interest from Penn State, Virginia and Virginia Tech.
Savage has great instincts for his size and often baits a quarterback into throwing his way. Once the quarterback bites, Savage uses his speed to either intercept the pass or close on the receiver allowing minimal yards. He brings tenacity to a defense that looks to improve with a great young core in Maryland’s 2014 and 2015 recruiting classes. Savage is a superior tackler and often plays bigger than his 5’10” frame allows him to. With a ton of potential, Maryland has locked down the cornerback position for years to come.
With his commitment, however, is likely the end of the Marcus Lewis saga. If Lewis wanted to commit, the Maryland staff would surely take him. But with three cornerbacks already on board in the class, a lot would need to happen for Lewis to decommit from Florida and flip to Maryland. There’s been crazier, but for now I do not see it.
With Savage’s commitment, Maryland rises to 25th in the nation and keeping them at 6th in the Big Ten. Maryland now has added eleven commits in just over three weeks and ends a three-day drought of no commits for Maryland.
