Despite a cold start, the Maryland basketball team did what they were supposed to do.

The Terrapins rolled past Bowie State 93-62 on Tuesday evening. It was the fifth consecutive game that Maryland landed in the win column.

This wasn’t a game for Maryland’s star players as no starter played more than 20 minutes. Guard Rasheed Sulaimon led the team with 16 points (7-of-10), four rebounds, and a trio of steals.

Center Diamond Stone added 14 points and a pair of blocks for the Terps.

Maryland came out very aggressive as they weren’t afraid to shoot the basketball. On their first offensive possession, the Terps hoisted on three shots, but didn’t connect on a single one.

The Terps scored eight of their first 14 points at the free throw line. Four of which came from forward Michal Cekovsky, who scored a career high 14 points (4-of-5).

It was only the second double-digit scoring game for Cekovsky in his Maryland career.

Cekovsky was very active around the rim, which is a strong part of his game. The Slovakian big man scored 11 of his 14 points in the first half.

Maryland’s lead ballooned all the way up to 47-29 at the half. The Terps outscored the Bulldogs 9-3 to end the first half.

Maryland began the second half on a 7-0 run to extend their lead to 54-29.

The Terps shot 59.6 percent from the field during the game. Maryland was able to get out in front and never look back against Bowie State.

This was a great opportunity for coach Mark Turgeon to give his marquee players some rest and hand out significant minutes to some of his bench producers.

Maryland resume Big Ten play against Wisconsin on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
