Forward Patrick Mullins has had success everywhere he’s been.

The story is no different in 2015 as Mullins is thriving with the New York City Football Club.

Mullins had a spectacular career at Maryland as he recorded 47 goals and had 35 assists in 92 career matches. He was a two-time Hermann Trophy winner (2012 & 2013), which is annually given to the top player in the nation.

The New Orleans native was part of a Terps team that reached the College Cup semifinals and finals during their time in College Park. He was one of the top players that ever came through the ACC.

However, all of that was put in the rear-view mirror after his collegiate career concluded in 2013.

Mullins was selected by the New England Revolution with the 11th overall pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft. He was one of two Terps to be selected in the first round as forward Schillo Tshuma was selected with the 17th overall pick by the Portland Timbers.

  • During the 2014 season, Mullins scored four goals and added an assist in 21 games (14 starts) for the Revolution.

During this past offseason, the New York City Football Club became a franchise and ended up selecting Mullins fourth in the MLS Expansion Draft. It marked the second consecutive season that Mullins was selected in the opening round of an MLS Draft.

However, Mullins appears to have really found a home in the Big Apple.

In 14 games, the former Terp has started in nine of those contests and has scored four goals and added three assists for his new team. He has also registered 26 shots, 10 of which have landed on goal.

Mullins’ four goals are second on the team to former FC Barcelona star David Villa, who has 10 tallies. Mullins is also tied for the team lead in assists.

Mullins is the type of player that has a pure scoring ability. He just need much room to get off a terrific shot and make an opposing goalkeeper just look plain silly.

In the open field, there’s few that have the kind of speed that Mullins does. On several occasions at Maryland, he found himself behind the defense and was able to fire a number of shots into the back of the net.

Mullins landed in a solid spot with the New York City Football Club. The team already had a star to help shoulder the scoring load in David Villa and will soon add former Juventus star Andrea Pirlo to their roster.

The former Maryland star definitely has a place playing alongside two great international soccer players. Playing with Pirlo and David Villa definitely could improve Mullins’ game and that’s a scary thought.

Mullins has definitely found a home in New York City and he is taking advantage of every opportunity.
