Maryland's Big Ten Schedule Released

Maryland’s first Big Ten basketball schedule was released Thursday night on the Big Ten Network and it’s got some pretty exciting matchups.

At first glance, what clearly stands out is their first game against Michigan State — the first time since the 2010 heartbreaker which dashed the Terps and Greivis Vasquez’ NCAA tournament run. Tom Izzo’s teams are always talented and poised, but they sometimes struggle early in the season, which could help Maryland in what will undoubtedly be one of those games you want to make it to Comcast for.

Next, the Terps will have three opportunities late in February to build their resume with games that may determine their postseason hopes. In the span of nine days, the Terps will host Nebraska, Wisconsin and Michigan, with the Wisky game being featured on ESPN as a part of Super Tuesday. These two weeks may likely make-or-break this team’s destiny, but they’ll have plenty of time to develop throughout the season as they’ll consistently face some of the top teams in the nation.

To be honest, it looks like Maryland got a break on their schedule (at least in comparison to that football slate Delany handed them). A lot of tough games will be held at the Xfinity Center, and they’ve still got some very winnable games on the road. Last year, Maryland had a lot of stretches where they had five or six days in between games. This year, they’ll have five-day breaks five times, which is also their longest stretch. Making sure this young team can handle the quick turnaround will be key, but Terrapin fans should be happy with this schedule.
