The yellow tape is officially off and we’re finally getting a full look at the Xfinity Center (weird to say, I know) Big Ten logos on the court. Gone is that white ACC emblem; in is the sleek B1G red outline right below the half court line:
While that’s just the partial peel, InsideMDSports.com got a nice screen grab from the promotional video the school unveiled today via the @UMTerps Twitter account:
Consider me biased, but that’s an upgrade over the bland ACC logo. At the very least, it’s a new and welcome change that’s symbolic of the future at Maryland.
Video after the jump:
If that doesn’t get you a little excited to usher in a new age, then there’s not a whole lot that will. New stuff=good stuff. Presumably, this outlined ‘B’ logo is also going to be featured on the uniforms, but get used to seeing it because it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.
In addition to the new logos, Maryland also renamed the arena itself; Comcast Center is now Xfinity Center. This just makes the rebranding that much more official. Yesterday it was announced that Maryland would be taking on powerhouse Wisconsin on ESPN at Xfinity Center in February, and they’re also set to play host to former ACC beau Virginia in November as part of the Big-Ten ACC Challenge.
It’s hard not to feel the buzz of a new season quickly approaching, despite it actually being months off. And this feels like the first year of the Turgeon era all over again; complete uncertainty about the future but optimistic about things.
