It was only a matter of time, but Maryland finally picked up a commitment from outside linebacker Isaiah Davis on Tuesday evening. Davis is a three-star outside linebacker, but had offers from Boston College, NC State and Virginia Tech. The Crystal Ball was 100 percent for the Wolfpack, but Maryland’s strong family ties may have given the Terps the edge in his recruitment.
Maryland was only willing to take one outside linebacker in this class, unless others really impress during their senior season. Davis, however, is a guy that brings versatility, leadership and toughness to this class.
Isaiah is the younger brother of current Maryland safety Sean Davis, who was just rated as the fourth best safety in the Big Ten. Ironically, Sean was also a three-star coming out of high school, but had yet to reach his full potential. Now, he is the anchor for this Maryland defense, and receives praise from the coaches. Isaiah looks to leave his own mark.
What impresses me about Davis is his strength and quickness for someone of his size. Playing a defensive end/outside linebacker hybrid, Davis does a great job of getting to the ball and making an impact play on each down.
He’s a guy that has versatility, which will come in handy. At Maryland, he will play outside linebacker and will be able to learn from Yannick Ngakoue in order to develop his game. Nonetheless, he’s the definition of a gem in a recruiting class.
