Terrapin Takes 7/2: B1G RBs, Mason Zimmerman, & A New Terp

  • JC Shurburtt of 247Sports gives you a rundown of the top five running backs in the Big Ten entering the 2014 season along with a few additional names to consider. As you might have guessed, no Terrapins appear on the list, but Maryland has a few very talented backs in their own right. Junior Brandon Ross will share the workload with reinstated tailback Wes Brown. The return of Brown definitely helps the Terps in a big way since Brown was the starter before suffering a season-ending injury midway through the 2012 season. Shurburtt has Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon at the top and indicates that Gordon could win the Heisman Trophy if healthy. The Badgers also have New Jersey native Corey Clement and DeMatha product Taiwan Deal. Clement is a guy that definitely has the potential to be a star as does Deal. Deal may not see the field quite as much given the depth at the position.
  • I had a chance to catch up with Anthony Wayne (OH) center Mason Zimmerman after he committed to Maryland. Zimmerman spoke about it being the right fit and how he fits in with the Maryland program. Be sure to check it out!
  • With Maryland officially in the Big Ten, our own Ahmed Ghafir brings you a piece on why Terp fans should be excited about the move.
  • The Maryland football team added another player to the defensive line in wrestler Spencer Myers. Myers won ACC heavyweight titles in 2011 and 2012 and has earned 62 wins while on the Maryland wrestling team. Anybody that throws people around can’t be a bad asset for the Terps to have. It’ll be an interesting story to follow.
