The Maryland football program have targeted several running back prospects recently and the Terrapins landed a commitment from a local star tailback.
Fort Hill running back Ty Johnson attended Maryland’s prospect camp on Sunday and after receiving a scholarship offer, he announced his pledge to the Terrapins.
Johnson was offered as an athlete by coach Randy Edsall and his staff. According to 247Sports, the Cumberland native is an unrated athlete and didn’t hold any other offers.
Despite not having a profile page on most major recruiting services, Johnson’s talent is undeniable. On a state championship team at Fort Hill, he earned first-team all-state honors as a junior and rushed for 1,254 yards (17.6 yards-per-carry) and 17 touchdowns while also catching five touchdown passes.. Johnson was just as stellar on the defensive side of the football as he had 10 interceptions while playing cornerback.
Despite only being 5’10/170 lbs., Johnson is an incredible athlete as he has earth-shattering speed. He reportedly ran a 4.36 50-yard dash and was part of the reason that the Terps offered so quickly.
This brings Maryland up to six commitments in the 2015 class and a few more could be on the way in the coming weeks. Stay tuned to TSMD for all the latest!
