Last week, the Maryland Terrapins football team offered 2016 offensive tackle Josh Ball (Stafford, VA). Stature wise, Ball harkens back to the halcyon days of Maryland offensive linemen during the Friedgen-era; he’s listed at 6’6, 305 lbs. That alone would tie him for the tallest player on the Terrapins roster (with 6’7 Jake Wheeler).
Ball, who started for Stafford football last year, got an offer from the Terrapins coaching staff in College Park after camp was held last weekend. While Ball has stated previously that his leading school is Virginia, he was nonetheless very excited about College Park when TSMD spoke with him.
Check out some of Ball’s highlights here.
What do you think about Maryland? How familiar are you with the program?
Ball: It’s a great school. I’m from Stafford and Stafford’s my high school so I’m real familiar with Maryland.
Have you gotten a chance to check out campus?
Ball: So far I’ve only got to check out the fields and stuff and a little bit of campus.
What do you think of [Maryland O-Line] Coach Studrawa?
Ball: He’s a great guy, I really like him. He’s a good coach and I thought he was a great guy.
Who’s your lead recruiter?
Probably Coach Wilt and then Coach Studrawa.
What position do you see yourself playing in college?
Ball: I’d say I’m a guard.
How much of the Terps football team have you seen?
Ball: I haven’t seen the team yet so I’m definitely going to come down there and, you know, maybe see the first game or the second game. I really like them and I think they’ve got some good facilities.
What’s the biggest thing you feel you need to work on as a player?
Ball: I’d say endurance and Coach said just stay humble and keep working.
What other schools have offered and have been talking to you?
Ball: I have two other offers from Marshall and ODU. Virginia Tech, UVA, Alabama, VCU, William and Mary, and JMU are all talking to me.
