Ellis McKennie commits to Maryland

As Randy Edsall would say, Maryland Pride was in full effect today. The Terps picked up their second commitment in a week when three-star McDonogh offensive lineman Ellis McKennie committed to Maryland.

Maryland has been considered the favorite for a while. With four-star offensive guard E.J. Donahue already on board, the staff has continued to make the offensive line a priority. Pair him up with incoming freshmen Derwin Gray and Damian Prince and this line will continue to improve as time progresses.

The staff likes McKennie’s big frame at 6’3″ and 280 pounds. He still has a year to develop and add more muscle, so when he comes to College Park, he won’t have to make a big adjustment. McKennie has great footwork and a lot of strength that allows him to hold his block, whether pass or run protection. More often than not, he just blows through his defender in pure domination. When this class is done, I expect McKennie to be one of the ‘sleeper’ picks to excel. Here are his highlights.

As Maryland fans have recently become anxious as to why the class has only one commitment with many of the top guys in the area committing elsewhere (aka Penn State), Maryland is still in contention for a lot of top players, including Isaiah Prince, Quarvez Boulware, Wyatt Cook, Kareem Ali and Jay Stocker. It’s only a matter of time before the dominoes begin to fall for this team. It’s never been a matter of effort, and fans will become pleased when they see more commitments in the following weeks into the fall.
