Well it seems the outbound transfers have come to a close for Maryland basketball. Last night, Omar Mohammed of WUSA tweeted that Charles Mitchell will stay in College Park, which is huge for this team going forward.
Saw Charles Mitchell at the gym. Asked him off he was staying with the program. Got a very assertive yes. @GameOnWUSA9

Nothing has been confirmed recently, but I did hear a while back that he was considering transferring, but those rumors have died down as of recently. It goes without saying that Charles Mitchell coming back for his junior season is the best news the team has gotten all off-season. Bringing back Chuck will allow him to play the 4 and 5 position, ideally the 4, and provides depth on this team. Without him, Maryland has a lot of project and young players that would have big shoes to fill. With Charles in the lineup, the young men, including Dodd, Cekovsky and Reed, will all have some time to develop and contribute solid minutes in next year’s rotation.
When Seth Allen first officially announced his transfer and rumors of Charles being next began to swirl, Maryland fans were very hesitant to believe that Mark Turgeon would leave this program to their first tournament appearance in five seasons. Now, I can say with much more confidence that this team has a very legitimate chance to not only make the tournament, but to contend for a spot atop the Big Ten next year. And I’m not the only one that thinks this.
Maybe I am crazy, but I still feel that Maryland can make NCAAs next season: Dez Wells, Layman, Smotrycz, Mitchell, Trimble, Wiley, Reed.
