Maryland draws Cornell in NCAA Tournament

After 24 hours of uncertainty, the Maryland Terrapins men’s lacrosse team learned their fate on Sunday evening.

After an 11-3 regular season, the Terps drew a match-up with Cornell in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The game will be played at 5 p.m. on Saturday and if the Terps win, they would get the winner of the Syracuse/Bryant or Siena game at Hofstra on May 17.

If Cornell seems like a familiar opponent, they should. Maryland faced the Big Red in the opening round of the tournament last year in College Park, where the Terps fell to the offensive onslaught of Rob Pannell and Steve Mock.

Fortunately for Maryland, the Cornell lethal tandem has graduated and this is a much different team. The Big Red are 11-4 on the season and fell to Penn in the semifinal round of the Ivy League Tournament.

I’ll have more to come on the match-up on Monday.
