TerrapinStationMD had the opportunity to interview Bishop McNamara offensive tackle Damian Prince after his commitment to Maryland. Here’s a transcript of the interview.
So why Maryland?
“I picked Maryland because I had the best and fastest opportunity to play. It’s a great academic school.”
How long have you known that you wanted to go to Maryland?
“About five hours.”
How does it feel?
“It feels good to finally get it off my chest. It’s good to get everyone off my case and really focus on other things that are important to me right now.”
Was five hours ago officially when you decided?
“Five hours ago was when I officially decided. Around this time yesterday, I still didn’t know what I was going to do.”
Did the coaching search weigh in your decision and what’s your relationship with new coach Greg Studrawa?
“We have a great relationship. We’ve talked a few times. He’s a high energy coach and he’s coached in the pros and in the National Championship. He knows what it’s like to get to the level I’m trying to be at.”
What put Maryland over the top?
“When I reevaluated everything, all the schools looked good. They start talking about their colors and that they play in one of the best conferences. But when all the lights are turned down, who is going to be there for you? I felt the most confident in the Maryland staff that that was going to be the case.”
What kind of impact do you think you can make as a freshman in College Park?
“Immediate impact. I know what type of player I am and what type of competitor I am. As a competitor, I’m not going to want to sit behind anybody. I’m going to do whatever it takes to play immediately.”
In terms of Maryland moving over to the Big Ten, what type of impact did that have on your decision?
“I don’t think it’s a secret that the Big Ten produces the best offensive linemen. With me playing in that conference, I could be among those great offensive linemen to play in the Big Ten.”
