UVA VS UMD First Half Thoughts

  • Pretty glad that half is over with. The Terrapins may only be down by two, but that was far and away one of their sloppiest half’s of the season. From their first possession of the game when Will Likely muffed the punt all the way to Caleb Rowe’s two tipped passes, things could have been considerably better.
  • Speaking of Caleb Rowe, I’m positive he’s hiding a horseshoe somewhere on his person. He’s thrown two balls that most definitely would have upped Maryland’s turnover margin to -4 had they not been tipped to Maryland players. They were badly thrown balls (one too short, the other to the wrong player), but Rowe is still 9-of-16 on the day and is on pace for 400 yards. We knew he was going to air it out, after all. His passes have looked very crisp, and he’s showing how superior a passer (in terms of arm strength) he is than others on the roster.
  • The defense has looked fantastic in the red zone, but woeful through the middle. Matt Robinson being out has clearly caused some issues in the linebacking corp, and it’s apparent that it’s the worst aspect of the defense. If Maryland can’t keep McGee in check (feels like he has a bajillion yards), then they’re going to get crushed. The Terps have been blitzing on what feels like every down, so perhaps it’s time to lay a few guys back and play some zone.
  • AJ Hendy is probably not a starter, and Mike Madaras may not be one either. Both have been getting mauled at their respective positions.
