It looks like that M&T Bank victory is already paying dividends for the Terps, as they just locked up four-star WR Juwann Winfree last week as a direct result of the game. That game was a major success for everyone involved, and the publicity garnered from it vaulted Maryland back into relevancy nationally. If it helps with recruiting this much, then it’s a no brainer that this should be happening once a year. Ideally against West Virginia. (Baltimore Sun)
Speaking of returning to national relevancy, Maryland is finally ranked again for the first time since 2010! And they didn’t even play last weekend. This could be short-lived, as Maryland is clearly going to have their hands full against Florida State this week, but it’s a milestone that should be acknowledged and celebrated accordingly. The Terrapins are 53rd in the nation right now in 247Sports team rankings, and that’s already a bit high considering some of their best prospects haven’t even committed yet. If those guys are end up being Maryland leans, that’s an awfully good sign of things to come and would be the first time Maryland ended up in the top 25 in team rankings since ’07.
The Diamondback also does a great job comparing one of the best Terps teams of all time (’01 unit) to today’s Terps via this infographic. While I love to make comparisons, there’s just no way I can say that this Maryland team is as good as that one.
