There’s another Maryland Terrapin in the pros! Just not the NBA.
The Terps resident sharpshooter has decided to continue his basketball path by playing overseas in the land of pasta, Italy. According to DiamondbackOnline.com, Aronhalt’s familiarity with the country (he took two trips over there in high school) was a factor in deciding where to play. Aronhalt will be playing in the third tier league for Assigeco Casalpusterlengo.
I honestly couldn’t think of a better place for Aronhalt to start building up his professional resume than overseas in Italy. Logan comes to a Casalpusterlengo roster that features literally zero American players, but a fair amount of talent. Casalpusterlengo nearly won the entire league last year before bowing out in the finals, and finished third in regular season play. So yeah, they’re probably expecting el americano to come in and push them over the top.
Aronhalt can do that, given how the European game is essentially tailored to his skill set. The same league that pumped out snipers like Andrea Bargnani and Danilo Gallinari should give Aronhalt the chance to drain enough shots through their free-flow playing system to stick around for awhile.
There is certainly going to be an adjustment period, as Logan probably doesn’t know much Italian and will be in an entirely new country to boot. Still, if anyone is capable of doing well, it’s a guy who is a consummate professional through and through. Aronhalt understands that to get to the top, you have to work hard from the bottom, and getting his foot in the door here is a good start.
TSMD would like to offer a congratulations to the Terp, and we’re excited to follow up on this once league play begins for Casalpusterlengo!
