Terrapin Takes: Monday, 7/01: Len In The NBA, Non-Revenue Sports

  • Ah, the non-revenue sports. The oft-forgotten athletes who still play just as hard as the basketball and football team, but lack the acclaim, attention, and presumed prestige. Their successes go unnoticed far too often, and it’s why we’re thankful that some folks over at TestudoTimes remind us of these accomplishments from time to time. Just like in this post by FHFan, who relived the Fall for us.
  • Alex Len was taken fifth overall last Thursday in the NBA Draft, heading to the Phoenix Suns. Such a great accomplishment for a very great kid. Just one issue: the Suns already have a starting center on the roster in Marcin “The Polish Hammer” Gortat. Immediately after taking Len, people assumed that Gortat would become trade bait because the Suns didn’t want to pay him. Well now that doesn’t seem to be the case. I think it’s probably a good thing, since Len needs to learn behind someone talented, just like Marcin did in Orlando with Dwight Howard. (CBSSports)
  • NunesMagician.com recently did a preview of Maryland football in their podcast, asking the burning questions like whether or not the Terps would have to start a linebacker at quarterback again this year. They did a pretty good job of summing up Maryland’s chances, and if you’ve got time, it’s worth a listen to on your commute to work. Or at work. Any time is a good time for Maryland football.
  • It’s always nice to take a look back at what comments were made by head coaches before and after a fact, so listening to a radio program that had Mark Turgeon talking about Alex Len (pre-draft) should be fun. And go figure, here it is. Turgeon seems to genuinely care about Len and his future, which has to make you happy. (CBS)
