Terrapin Takes, Thursday: Antonio Barton, Deadspin, Charlie White

  • Categorize this one under “Cool.” Yesterday, the Maryland Terrapins honored Lefty Driesell for his dedication and contributions to the school with a bas-relief inside the Comcast Center. A single bas-relief doesn’t even do that man’s eight NCAA tourney appearances and 348 wins justice. You know those bird statues they have all around campus? Replace those with Lefty statues, the man’s earned it. (
  • The Terrapins baseball team is in serious danger of not making the tournament, and that’s due in large part to their lack of success on the weekends. This weekend, they’ve got the Virginia Tech Hokies, and in order to start righting the ship, it has to start with them. Here’s a preview of when and where to get you prepped.
  • Speaking of non-revenue sports, the Washington Post does a great job of wrapping up all their content for the week. In this edition, they talk about baseball standout Charlie White, whose base running this year has landed him in the record books. A bright star in a tougher season, congrats Charlie!
  • An in-house promotion, Steven Ulrich of TerrapinStationMD gives his take on why Antonio Barton would be a great fit for Maryland. He’s a Baltimore kid, and as we all know, Baltimore is never on good terms with College Park. But it still means he has homegrown roots, and might want to take a reunion tour with the Terps.
  • The Terrapins have an early glimpse already at a part of their schedule, the Paradise Jam, which released their bracket to the public. Up first? Marist, which features two local Md. products. A win/loss there would pit them against either Northern Iowa or Loyola Marymount. Both games should be interesting as hell.
  • In slightly sports-related news, Maryland has yet again made headlines. This time because of their amazing sorority sisters who have, let’s just say, a lot of pent up aggression. Read the transcript here.
