2014 four-star DB D’Andre Payne (Friendship Collegiate Academy Washington, D.C.) trimmed the list of the offers he is still considering down to ten this morning and the Maryland Terrapins made the cut. Payne was recognized as the MVP of the Next Level Nation 5-Star Elite Showcase held in Frederick, MD last weekend, you can find my recap of that event here. The other schools Payne is still considering are (in no particular order); Florida State University, the University of Tennessee, Ohio State University, the University of Virginia, Clemson University, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt University, Stanford University and the University of Michigan.
According to the 247Sports Timeline for D’Andre Payne he has visited the University of Maryland unofficially twice, February 16th for junior day and September 1st for the Terps win over William & Mary, since being offered a scholarship in May of 2012. Since that last February visit Payne has been rated as a consensus top 20 DB recruit in the class of 2014 as well as a top three recruit in the District of Columbia.
By all accounts Payne has a strong relationship in place with the Terrapins coaching staff already and with Terps target Jalen Tabor, as well as sleeper S prospect Dimitri Lee who is also receiving interest from Maryland, in the same Friendship Collegiate Academy secondary this season there should be ample opportunity for the Terps coaching staff to spend plenty of time recruiting the HS secondary which refers to itself as the “No Fly Zone”.
Below is quick look at Payne, Tabor and Lee in action during the “Five Up” drill at this past Saturday’s Next Level Nation 5-Star Elite Showcase. Payne is on the near side in the black shorts, Lee is lined up at safety in the yellow pants and Tabor is on the far side in the blue shorts and white shirt.
