Today we profile the most experienced returning receiver on Maryland’s roster.

College Stats (through three seasons): 21 receptions for 212 yards and one touchdown

How’d He Get To College Park?
At Gwynn Park, Quintin McCree was teammates with Adrian Moten and Taylor Watson and was a three-year starter, playing wide receiver and occasionally appearing in the secondary. A consensus all-state pick his senior year, he was second-team All-Met and was also selected to the All-Gazette and All-Examiner teams. He also ran track at the school for two years.
During his senior year, he led the Yellow Jackets to an undefeated 14-0 campaign and their first-ever state title. He chose Maryland over an offer from Tennessee.
After graduating from Gwynn Park in 2005, he spent a year at Hargrave Military Academy, but kept his commitment to the Terps. He then redshirted his first year in College Park, and played in four games as a freshman in 2008. After exploding in the spring game with four receptions for 163 yards and two touchdowns before his sophomore campaign, he played in eleven games, with two starts, and caught five passes.
Before last season, there was actually a time where McCree was in contention for Torrey Smith’s starting job. That soon faded, however, as Smith posted one of the best seasons for a receiver in Maryland history and while McCree didn’t make a single start. The junior did play in twelve games, however, catching 16 passes for 188 yards and a touchdown, most among returning Maryland receivers.

McCree becomes Danny O’Brien’s most reliable target, catching 50 passes for over 700 yards and five scores.
Nightmare season:
McCree loses his starting job to one of the younger receivers.
2011 Prospectus:
Quintin McCree is currently the unquestioned starter at WR-Z for Maryland, with punt returner Tony Logan and true freshmen Tyrek Cheeseboro and Marcus Leak behind him on the depth chart. While any one of those players could theoretically challenge the senior for his starting spot, it’s not likely and there’s another candidate McCree should be much more wary of – Adrian Coxson, one of the current backups at WR-X.
McCree is definitely going to be one of the keys to Maryland’s offense. The Terps have one of the top quarterbacks in the conference in O’Brien, but the guy needs playmakers to throw to. McCree has shown in spurts that he has that ability, and is one of the few receivers on this roster that could realistically be expected to contribute this season. Don’t expect a Torrey Smith-type year (maybe not even an Adrian Cannon-type year), but the senior should be productive in an offense with a great line an a great signal caller.
