Turgeon Picks Up First 2012 Commit

In an expected bit of good basketball recruiting news, Fredericksburg (Va.) guard Seth Allen has committed to Maryland on his visit to College Park this weekend, WaPo’s Josh Barr reports.

Allen is an athletic guard who can shoot threes and is good friends with Justin Anderson. With the potential losses of Sterling Gibbs and Nick Faust looming, Maryland now has some extra added guard depth come 2012 and he’s a guy that I really think can be a sleeper in this program.

He does not yet have a rating on Rivals, but the 6’2″, 180 pounder has the following grades on the site:

  • Shooting:Outstanding
  • Rebounding:Developing
  • Handle:Good
  • Passing:Good
  • Strength:Good

He plays AAU ball for Hoop Booth, and was being recruited by Elon, James Madison, Miami, Texas A&M, UCF, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Allen averaged 25 points per game this past year, and was called a “lefthanded Steve Francis” by his high school coach. Congrats to Mark Turgeon, and more importantly, congrats to Seth Allen.
