After picking up a commitment from Good Counsel offensive tackle Mike Madaras yesterday, Randy Edsall has picked up his second big time 2012 commit this week by getting a pledge from McDonogh School (Owings Mill, Md.) defensive end Roman Braglio.
Braglio is a 3/4 star defensive end (3 by Scout, 4 by ESPN, not yet rated by Rivals), and he’s a solid prospect. Listed at 6’4″ 260 by Rivals, he runs a 4.65 40 and also had an offer from West Virginia. The junior also had interest from Penn State, Pitt, and Tennessee, among others.
The Terps only have one defensive commit in their 2011 class – Quinton Jefferson – so this is a needed get to improve their depth on the defensive line. Let’s go to the tape (it doesn’t actually start until 0:35 in):
Braglio doesn’t have the size of Jefferson, but he makes up for it with a lot of strength and speed. He’s flat-out destroying the kids in Baltimore county, and even though he’s not that much bigger than the other guys on the field (something you’d like to see from an top tier line prospect) he manhandles them to the point that you can tell that he’s something special.
This is completely un-Friedgen like – getting top prospects to commit extremely early in the process. I ain’t opposed. Thanks, Randy.
