The domination for the #1 team in women’s lacrosse continues, as the Terp picked up their third straight win and won their home opener over #16 Penn State, 13-2.
While Maryland scored 1:20 seconds into the opening half, Penn rallied with two goals within 4 minutes of each other to take a 2-1 lead, the first deficit Maryland has faced all season. But The Terps remained calmed and scored 12 unanswered goals after that, shutting down PSU for the rest of the game. Kristy Black, Sarah Mollison, Katie Schwarzmann each scored hat tricks, showing how deep this team really is. Karri Ellen Johnson also chipped in three assists.
The Terps have outscored their last two opponents 30-10, and continue to show why they are the #1 team in the country, but it was the defense today that led them to a win. Maryland has a week’s rest before taking on Duke at home, Feb. 26 at 12:00pm.
Player of the Game: I’m taking Kristy Black. Even thought three Terps scored hat tricks, it was Black that got the rout started. After Penn State took the lead, Black proceeded to score three of the next four goals for Maryland. She only needed three shots to hit her three goals as well.
