Randy Edsall has completed his coaching staff with one of the most dumbfounding hires in the history of the program – Todd Bradford has been promoted to defensive coordinator.
I’m so mad right now it’s not even funny (when I don’t make any Bradford ‘stache jokes, you know I’m pissed). Don Brown leaves the program, so the Terps target Randy Shannon – a good move. Shannon turns them down because of a clause in his contract in Miami that they should have known about anyway, so they promote a position coach who had one of the worst defenses in the country at Southern Miss over the past few years? Again, so much for transformative excellence.
Kevin Anderson and Edsall are saying one thing, but doing something completely different. They talk about championships. They talk about competing for the ACC every year. They talk about turning this program from “good” to “great”. Instead, the major moves they’ve made only look to take it from “good” to “bad”.
Don’t get me wrong, the position coach hires they’ve made are excellent for the most part. And this team has enough talent that they should be able to win double-digit games next year no matter who is coaching them. But in the future, there is going to be major trouble as long as Gary Crowton and Todd Bradford are your two coordinators.
Taking over Bradford’s previous position as linebackers coach, the Terps hired Keith Dudzinski, the defensive coordinator at UMass. Dudzinski was Don Brown’s DC with the Minutemen, and I’d even be happier with him running the defense than this clown Bradford.
Honestly, if it weren’t for the guys on the team, I might be done with this program. That’s how upset I am.
Well, at least we still have basketball. Oh, right. Damn.
