A source has informed us at Terrapin Station that Maryland 2011 football pledge Dontez Tyler has reopened his commitment. Tyler is the second player to do so after the recent coaching changes at the school, following tight end Ryan Malleck.

Tyler, from Ahoskie, Nc., is a speedy defensive end who picked Maryland over Arkansas, East Carolina, and Virginia. He’s rated at three stars by Rivals and ESPN, and two stars by Scout. He finished the year at Hertford County with 50 tackles, eight sacks, and three receiving touchdowns.

Tyler’s primary recruiter was special teams coordinator Charles Bankins, who will reportedly leave Maryland to join James Franklin at Vanderbilt.
