Ralph Friedgen and co. have picked up their 20th commitment of the 2011 football class – Quince Orchard linebacker Alex Twine, who was offered a scholarship less than a week ago.
Maryland was Twine’s only FBS offer, but he chose Maryland over top-flight FCS programs like Delaware, James Madison, and Massachusetts. He’s listed at 6’1″, 200 pounds, and plays outside linebacker.
Here’s a highlight tape, he’s #4:
He doesn’t wow you with his speed, but he seems pretty strong and has good tackling and hitting ability. In particular look at the hit (and closing speed) that he makes at around the 1:01 mark, and the play after that one, as well. He also makes a few good plays in pass coverage (look around 2:37), and seems to be a well-rounded player. What impressed me most, however, is his field vision – that’s not something you can teach.
Basically, I was very skeptical after looking at his other offers, but after watching his highlight tape, I’m very excited that Alex Twine is coming to College Park.
